About two weeks ago, I had the privilege of dressing up as Princess Ariel for a local business (Simply Susan’s) during my city’s Winterfest Tree Lighting Event and visiting with all of Tiffin’s sweet little ones. While knelt down beside a little girl, with my long skirt flowing all over the sidewalk, she asked me, “Ariel, how did you change your mermaid tail into legs?”
I’m not familiar with The Little Mermaid. I’ve always been more of a Cinderella girl. I wasn’t sure how to answer her question, so I simply stated, “magic, of course!”. After hearing my response, she looked me up and down for a bit and then shrugged her shoulders and said, “okay!”
Her innocent way of believing has stayed in my heart since her sweet blonde curls bounced into my life. And from that day forward, I have seen magic everywhere… I saw magic in an elderly woman’s eyes when I helped her sort her change at the bank, I saw magic – real magic – at my kitchen table when my mom had her kids home for dinner, I saw magic at the cemetery where my sister is buried when I found a small, frayed heart underneath her tiny Christmas tree, and I saw magic in my studio when Santa sang Christmas songs to each of the children. I think there is magic present in our lives every single day. We just have to choose to see it. I believe…
He’s making a list, and checking it twice!
Here is where my house is, Santa…
Oh my goodness! No way! You’re the guy on my jammies! 😉
May your Christmas be nothing short of… magic.
